A.A. Brown & Sons Ejector Repair

Here is a Brown & Sons BLE with a failed right ejector.

Photos 1 & 2 - Extractor failed shaft/blade intersection due to a crack (which likely originated at a tool mark)

Photos 3 & 4 - Extractor blade machined to accept new shaft

Photo 5 - The blade and shaft fixtured in place for brazing (after the fact)

Photo 6 - The new shaft silver-brazed in place

Photo 7 through 9 - The shaft has been machined in half and hand fit and lapped to fit with its mate

Photo 10 - Measuring the radius of the retaining screw pocket (with a radius gauge)

Photo 11 - Machining the retaining screw pocket

Photo 12 - Getting ready to file up the nose

Photo 13 - The filed and fitted shaft is hardened to prevent battering and peening at the screw stop and hammer strike areas ( it is then tempered and the whole part polished )
